Before changing anything
- Exit the game and let Steam finish synchronization.
- Make a copy of the existing save area before moving, renaming, or replacing files.
- Keep the original folder structure and timestamps in your copy.
- Check the latest official announcement for a save-specific fix.
- If recovery is still needed, report the case through official support with logs rather than testing random downloadable ‘save fixers.’
What AG-12 changed
The new automatic backup system is designed to preserve previous saves after an unexpected interruption. It is a resilience feature, not a guarantee against every corruption scenario, sync conflict, manual deletion, or incompatible old build.
What AG-14 changed
Save files are now sorted by creation time in ascending order. Confirm timestamps before choosing a file; list position alone is not proof that a save is the newest, healthiest, or safest restore point.
Steam Cloud
The Steam store lists Steam Cloud support. Cloud synchronization and the game's own automatic backups solve different problems: Cloud moves/synchronizes data; backups preserve earlier local states. A sync conflict can still require careful choice.
What remains unpublished
- The number of backup generations.
- The retention period.
- The exact naming and backup subfolder on every configuration.
- A developer-approved manual restoration procedure for every failure mode.
